Acceptable Use Policy — Emet

Effective: 2026-09-15

This policy forms part of the Terms of Service. It applies to your organisation and to everyone you invite. It is deliberately short: it describes the small number of things that would make us stop serving an account, and nothing else.

1. The one-sentence version

Use Emet to translate material you have the right to translate, with people you have chosen, and do not attack the platform or use it to harm anyone.

2. Content you must not put into the platform

  • Material you do not hold the rights to. Terms of Service §3 already makes this a warranty; it is repeated here because it is the most likely way an account causes a problem. Source texts and reference translations both need a licence.
  • Material whose translation would be unlawful in Brazil or in your own jurisdiction.
  • Content that sexualises children, or that exists to incite violence against people. There is no version of this we will host.
  • Special-category personal data — health records, biometric data, and the like. The platform is not designed for it and Privacy Policy §2 says so. Note that Scripture and religious commentary as subject matter are not special-category data about anyone; this is about the personal data of living individuals, not about the theology.

And one request rather than a prohibition: keep personal data out of source text where the work does not need it. Names, addresses, phone numbers and identity numbers inside a document travel with it — including to the AI providers, exactly as any other sentence does (Subprocessors §§2–3). We are not going to forbid you from translating a field report or a testimony; that is real work and the platform exists to do it. But where a name can be removed, or replaced with a role, before upload, remove it. This is the one place where a small habit on your side materially shrinks what has to be protected on ours, and Data Processing Agreement §7 explains why it matters more here than the usual boilerplate would suggest.

  • Malware, or files whose purpose is to exploit whoever opens them.

3. Use of the platform you must not make

  • Sharing credentials. Each person gets their own account (Terms of Service §2). Shared logins destroy the audit trail that is the point of the product.
  • Reselling access, or operating Emet as a service for organisations that are not yours, without a written agreement with us.
  • Extracting the platform rather than using it — scraping the interface, copying the translation rubric or the quality-check logic out for use elsewhere, or attempting to derive them by systematic probing.
  • Using the AI drafting to build a competing model, including generating bulk output for the purpose of training or distilling another system.
  • Circumventing the limits your plan is sold on — seats, AI word allowance, projects — by technical means rather than by upgrading. Automating through the API is expected and fine; it is metered the same way the interface is.

4. The platform itself

  • Do not attempt to access another organisation's data. Tenant isolation is enforced in the database layer (Subprocessors, final section) and probing it is a breach of this policy, whether or not it works.
  • Do not attempt to disrupt, overload or degrade the service for others.
  • Security testing needs written permission first. We would genuinely rather hear from you than not: if you find a vulnerability, write to security@emet.ing and we will not treat a good-faith report as a breach of this policy. Testing without asking, on shared infrastructure that other organisations' unpublished manuscripts sit on, is a different thing.

5. What happens if this policy is breached

Proportionate to what happened, and in this order wherever the facts allow it:

1. We tell you and ask you to fix it. This is the normal case, because the normal case is a misunderstanding rather than bad faith. 2. We suspend the account or the individual user if it continues, or if leaving it running would harm someone else. 3. We terminate, under Terms of Service §7.

We may skip straight to suspension where continued use threatens the security or integrity of the platform, or where the content is of a kind we will not host at all (§2). We will still tell you, and say why.

Your data is not held hostage by a suspension. Export continues to work — see Terms of Service §7 and Refund & Cancellation Policy §5. A suspension stops new work; it does not take away what you have already done.

Refunds after termination for breach: Refund & Cancellation Policy §7.

6. Reporting a problem

Content or conduct that breaches this policy: support@emet.ing. Security vulnerabilities: security@emet.ing.
